If the word sounds familiar, there is a reason. The modern title, "bachelor," awarded to college graduates, is derived from the Greek word "bacca-laureus," meaning laurel-berry.
Native to the Mediterranean, Europe and the United States, Laurel trees grow up to 60 feet and produce dark-green fragrant leaves and small yellow leaves that develop into small purple or blackberries. Through a steam distillation process, the essential oil is extracted from the proud and hearty Laurel leaves.
